National Training Course in Myanmar was finished successfully NEW!!

The 3rd National Training Course of the project “Strengthening Food Safety Standard Setting and Enhancing Effective Participation in Codex Activities in Myanmar” was finished successfully in Yangon, Myanmar from 20 to 21 December 2016.  The National Training Course was organized by FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific in collaboration with Food and Drug Administration, Ministry of Health and Sports of Myanmar.

The main objectives of the training course were to provide participants with:

1) An enhanced understanding of the structure and function of Codex Alimentarius Commission and National Codex Committee
2) An enhanced knowledge about effective participation in Codex activities
3) Draft road map for improving standard development activities and strengthening Codex activities

The training course methodology consisted of lectures, sharing of other country experiences followed by discussions and group work.

Regional Training Workshop in Thailand was finished successfully NEW!!

The 5th Regional Training Workshop entitled “Enhancing Effective Participation in Codex Activities in ASEAN Countries” was finished successfully in Bangkok, Thailand from 9 to 11 January 2017.

The main objectives of the regional training workshop were to provide participants with:

1) An enhanced understanding of  the impact of Codex standards on international trade, structure and function of CAC, up-to-date information of recent Codex meetings,  food safety risk analysis and risk assessment including the role of scientific expert bodies such as JECFA, JMPR, and JEMRA

2) An opportunity to share knowledge and experience on current national Codex activities in ASEAN countries and;

3) Training on development of regional/national positions through mock sessions to enhance participants capacity to contribute effectively to Codex work

The training workshop consisted of lectures, case study, and group work (including a mock training session).

National Training Course in Lao PDR was finished successfully

The 2nd National Training Course of the project “Strengthening Food Safety Standard Setting and Enhancing Effective Participation in Codex Activities in Lao PDR” was finished successfully in Vientiane, Lao PDR from 27 to 29 June 2016.  The National Training Course was organized by FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific in collaboration with Ministry of Health of Lao PDR.

The general objective of the training course was to enhance capacity for food safety standards setting including contributing to Codex standards work. Specific objectives of this training course were as follows:

1)      Enhanced understanding of the structure and function of Codex Alimentarius Commission in relation to SPS/TBT Agreements and elaboration of Codex standards

2)      Enhanced knowledge of the basic concept of Codex risk analysis framework and its link to standard development and data collection and utilization

3)      Enhanced understanding of  strengthened National Codex Contact Committee

4)      Enhanced knowledge about effective participation in Codex activities

5)      Draft road map for improving standard development activities and strengthening Codex activities

Regional Training Workshop “Enhancing Effective Participation in Codex Activities in ASEAN Countries” was finished successfully in Tokyo

The 4th Regional Training Workshop of the project “Enhancing Effective Participation in Codex Activities in ASEAN Countries” was finished successfully in Tokyo, Japan from 8 to 11 September 2015. The Regional Training Workshop was organized by FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific in collaboration with Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) of Japan and European Commission.

The main objectives of the regional training workshop were to provide participants with:

1) an enhanced knowledge of structure and functioning of Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC) including its history and objectives, procedures for elaboration of Codex standards, Codex documentations and how to use the online tools

2) an enhanced understanding of the impact of Codex standards on international trade

3) training  on development of regional/national positions

4) up-to-date information on the result of the 38th CAC

5) simulated training through mock sessions to enhance participants capacity to contribute effectively to Codex work

The training workshop consisted of lectures, case study, group work (mock training session) and field trip to a milk processing plant. The lectures covered an overview of the structure and functioning of CAC and the results of the 38th CAC focusing on key issues of interest to ASEAN countries. The case study enabled participants to enhance the capacity to develop regional or national positions. The mock training session simulating a commodity committee enabled participants to enhance the capacity to develop regional or national positions and contribute more effectively to future Codex work.

 

The field tour was planned on the final day of the workshop.  The location was as follows:

Training workshop “Design and Evaluation of Mycotoxin Sampling Protocols” was finshed successfully in Philippines

The FAO regional training workshop “Design and Evaluation of Mycotoxin Sampling Protocols” was successfully completed in Oakwood Premier Hotel, Joy-Nostalg Center Manila, Philippines 11-12 September 2014 with generous support by Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries Standards (BAFS), Department of Agriculture, Phiippines .

The main objective of the training workshop was to enhance capacity of users of Mycotoxin Sampling tool whichhad been developed by FAO recently. The expected outputs of the training workshop were:

1)Enhanced knowledge of sampling and testing in modern food control

2)Enhanced knowledge of mycotoxins sampling in food commodities

3)Understanding of the FAO mycotoxin sampling tool and capacity developed to use the same

The training workshop methodology was consist of lectures, practice on using the tool including hands-on training using practical examples.

The training was attended by twenty participants from ASEAN country (two participants from each ten ASEAN countries), resource persons and staff of FAORAP. Besides the participants mentioned above, two observers from Japan, one observer from India and twelve observers from Philippines attended at the training workshop.

The 1st National Training Workshop has been completed successfully in Cambodia.

The FAO National Training Workshop:“Strengthening Food Standard Setting and participation in Codex activities in Cambodia” has been completed at 21 February 2014 in InterContinental Phnom Penh after 2 and half day schedule. The main objective of the training workshop was to enhance capacity for food safety standards setting including contributing to Codex standards work. Specific objectives of this training course were as follows;
1) To understand the importance and principles of SPS/TBT in relation to standards development Agreements
2) To enhance understanding of  basic concept of Codex risk analysis framework and its link to standard development
3) To enhance knowledge about Codex standards setting structure, procedures and activities
4) To strengthen participation in and contribute to Codex standards setting activities

5) To understand Cambodia’s national standardization structure and activities and support to strengthen the same

6) To discuss and consider national road  map for strengthening national standard setting structure and procedures in Cambodia

The training course methodology was consisting of lectures, sharing of other country experiences followed by discussions and  group work. The training course was attended 32 national participants from several Ministries of Cambodian Government, such as Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Industry and Handicrafts, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Fisheries, Ministry of Tourism and Ministrty of Economy and Finance and 4 international resource persons. It was operated by generous support of Camcontrol (Ministry of Commerce) and FAO Cambodia.
